Cookie Pairing Update

After seeing a lot of success with beer and cookie pairings around town I have continued to reach out to a lot of different places to do some pairings. They’re always a lot of fun and putting together the pairings is always a really great way to get to know my product better.

This week I have a first time pairing at Joyride Brewing. This brewery is in a great location, right next to Sloan’s Lake so you can go for a quick run and grab a pint after! Their beer is also delicious with a pretty large variety to offer beer drinkers every day. Working with the head brewer, Dave, to put together a really solid pairing has been a great time and I’m hoping they want to do more pairings in the future!

Thursday, January 11th from 6-8pm you’ll be able to come to this really underrated part of Denver for four cookies and four tasters just for $12! It’s a great weeknight event to get friends together and spend a couple hours eating and drinking. There’s also some really great restaurants in the area that you can check out before or after the pairing.

So, which pairing will I see you at?!

Who’s ready for 2018?!

Alright. We’re two days into the new year, how does that make you feel? Personally, I spent all of the first day in bed, cuddling with my lovely and eating a bunch of junk food. We both told ourselves that we would get our shit together at the beginning of the year but we needed one day of doing absolutely nothing together so we chose January 1st. We both have really busy lives and that usually means we eat dinner really late, equating to pretty unhealthy options, drinking more and sleeping in way longer than we should.

So we did the “smart” thing and started the year off by not leaving the bed, shoving cheez-its and Chinese food in our faces and attempting to watch an entire season of Breaking Bad. I’m not upset at all and today I feel refreshed and ready for the year.

I’ve had a lot of new ideas for Good Sugar Baking. The problem is trying to weed out the ones that won’t work and keeping the ones that will work in my mind. I have A LOT to learn and now that Good Sugar Baking is my sole form of income it’s time to do the learnin’ and growin’!

Side note, look at these real cool buttons! Feel free to ask me for one.

What’s up with January, then? Some sweet, new photographs of delicious cookies and whatnots. With professional photography I will be adding a REAL online store so all of you can purchase cookies at your leisure, making it so easy for you! I will also be upgrading my packaging to something extremely cool for all of my accounts. Which takes me to accounts. The beginning of the year is going to be a lot of cookie samples going around town to get the name out there more.

Of course the thing that keeps me really excited about this opportunity is still giving back to nonprofits. Starting January I switch to a new nonprofit, one that a good friend of mine chose and it’s one that I’m very excited to be partnering with. The National Park Foundation has been going through some changes and could use some help! So every pairing, every cookie, everything that Good Sugar Baking sells will give a percentage back to The National Park Foundation. NPFlogo

Seedstock Beer and Cookie Pairing!

This week!!! Don’t have anything to do on Wednesday?! Then you have to come to the beer and cookie pairing at Seedstock Brewery. This brewery has been open for a short period of time, but they’re pumping out the beers and making a good name for themselves.

Which is why I’m super excited to have a beer and cookie pairing there!

Account Spotlight: Mockery Brewing

“For beer drinkers looking for creative & delicious brews, Mockery Brewing is the innovative producer of damn good beers that break the rules in all the right places.”

Mockery Brewing has been one of my go to breweries since they’ve been open. They have always been putting out really fun, experimental and innovative beers in a setting that’s warm and welcoming. I’ve gotten to know a few of the people there just from working in the industry and I’m ecstatic that they wanted to carry my cookies. When they first opened they were carrying cookies but evidently health inspectors didn’t like that. Good thing I have all the licensing and other jazz necessary so now they can have cookies again!

Anyways, their cucumber Berliner Weisse is such a refreshing and tasty beer, just one of the many that I’ve come to enjoy there. Although I don’t know either of the owners, I’m assuming they are some pretty cool dudes just because of how amazing their brewery is.

This Friday, you can find me at Mockery with cookie samples and to party for First Friday!

July is here!

Now that June is pretty much over, I’m definitely enjoying this summer so far. I’ve been keeping busy planning events, distributing cookies and creating new recipes. July is destined to be a solid month with more new stuff to come!

First off, July 11th is a beer and cookie pairing at a new brewery! Ratio is definitely one of my favorite breweries; the beer is great, it’s dog friendly and the people are awesome. This beer and cookie pairing is going to be so delicious. Get your tickets here: https://nightout.com/events/good-sugar-baking-cookie-beer-pairing-at-ratio-beerworks/tickets

July is also the start of a new partnered nonprofit. It was great to support 2BAB for the first quarter of the year and I’m excited about writing them a check! That being said, I am really excited to announce the new partnered nonprofit. Stay tuned to find out who the next nonprofit will be!

I am also going to be launching a couple different programs. Refer a friend for a discount on your next order, a loyalty program as well as a couple other programs that will help boost sells and get cookies into everybody’s hands.

Don’t forget the Fourth of July is coming up! Bring some Good Sugar Baking cookies to all of your get togethers, bbq’s and pool parties!

OH! I also just added gift cards: Give a gift card!

Cookies are like whiskey

It’s about time I write about whiskey. Everybody’s been waiting for it, I’m sure. I thought about it, you guys. Whiskey + cookies… they’re basically the same thing. Here’s why:

  1. Although cookies grow old, if you let dough sit it gets better. Now I don’t mean leave your dough on the counter and it’s just going to get some amazing “aged” flavor. Actually, it will definitely have an aged flavor, but it won’t be good. However, some cookies require the dough to sit in the fridge, covered, for a longer time. Chilling dough solidifies the fat so your cookies don’t completely flatten out. Chill away!
  2. Cookies taste great. Whiskey tastes great. They’re just great.

Well. That’s it. It turns out whiskey and cookies don’t have that much in common except that they’re great together.

I just kinda wanted to give you a sneak peak to a new cookie…

I’m not telling you what it is though. You have to come to the Beer and Cookie pairing THIS WEDNESDAY!

Beer and cookie pairing next week!

I’ve talked to many people that wish they could have attended the beer and cookie pairing that I did last month at Zuni Street brewing. Well, here’s your chance!! Next Tuesday, May 23rd from 4-8pm you can come down and try some cookies and beer together.

Zuni Street Brewing has been open for a little while now, just a couple of months, but their beer has already proved itself in the craft beer world. As someone who has worked in the beer industry for fiveish years now, I’m proud to be able to pour beer for these guys. It’s always a little intimidating to start working for a brewery where you’ve never tried the beer before. I have a hard time faking that I like a beer if I don’t, but I’m happy to report that I appreciate all of the beer that Willy has been putting out since day one!

So here we have it. Another beer and cookie pairing! I also have my cookies for sale there so you can swing by for cookies whenever you have that sweet craving!

May the fourth be full of cookies!

Happy Star Wars day to all of you! I’m not the biggest Star Wars fan (sorry!) but I have seen all of the movies and I know what’s up with everyone saying “May the fourth be with you.” I had a very productive and great day yesterday meeting with accounts and potential accounts, scheduling events and even had time to catch a quick set from The Slackers! It was a rewarding day and now I’m feeling it after getting little sleep, but who wants to sleep when there’s cookies to bake?!

That all being said, I wish I had realized that Star Wars day was coming up and would have made a cool Star Wars themed cookie. However! For anyone that still wants some sort of inspiration, I found this: Star Wars Themed Cookies. Indulge. Bake them. Tell me how they are!

Next year I’ll better prepare myself for this almost-holiday.

Oh, and…. I have an event coming up in a few weeks! Let’s go! Beer and Cookie Pairing

Pairing Beer with Cookies

You know how there are beer snobs, wine snobs, whiskey snobs, weed snobs and a million other silly snobs in the world? I’ve been called a beer snob a time or two and yet I’ve never considered myself a beer snob, but maybe that’s something that snobs always do. One thing I have always been “snobbish” about is pairing things with things. Like food and beer. So lately I’ve been trying to pair cookies with beer and it has been SUPER fun.

Like the banana cream cookie. So much banana, so much flavor, so much cookie. You put that together with a nice Belgian style beer and it’s even more banana, flavor and cookie. I think anyone that has tried my banana cream cookie paired with a Belgian beer could agree. Alright, beer snobs, I know you’re thinking, “but what KIND of Belgian?! There are so many!!” You’re right. Those Belgians sure do like to drink. I’m going to stay vague here and let you enjoy different Belgian styles. So try it, let me know what you think pairs best together.

Here are some beer and cookie pairing tips that I’ll share with you:

  1. Not every chocolate cookie pairs amazingly with a porter.
  2. IPA’s are not a cookie’s best friend.
  3. Dunking your cookie into your beer isn’t like dunking oreos in milk. Actually, nothing is like dunking oreos in milk.
  4. If you do try to dunk your cookie into your beer, it will fall apart if you keep it in there too long.
  5. Opposites attract with cookies. Try something you normally wouldn’t try. Pair that chocolate macadamia nut cookie with a raspberry sour.

To be honest with you though, I didn’t try pairing any cookies with any Coors or Budweiser. There’s something that just seems off about trying to pair a peanut butter cookie with a Miller High Life.
