Who’s ready for 2018?!

Alright. We’re two days into the new year, how does that make you feel? Personally, I spent all of the first day in bed, cuddling with my lovely and eating a bunch of junk food. We both told ourselves that we would get our shit together at the beginning of the year but we needed one day of doing absolutely nothing together so we chose January 1st. We both have really busy lives and that usually means we eat dinner really late, equating to pretty unhealthy options, drinking more and sleeping in way longer than we should.

So we did the “smart” thing and started the year off by not leaving the bed, shoving cheez-its and Chinese food in our faces and attempting to watch an entire season of Breaking Bad. I’m not upset at all and today I feel refreshed and ready for the year.

I’ve had a lot of new ideas for Good Sugar Baking. The problem is trying to weed out the ones that won’t work and keeping the ones that will work in my mind. I have A LOT to learn and now that Good Sugar Baking is my sole form of income it’s time to do the learnin’ and growin’!

Side note, look at these real cool buttons! Feel free to ask me for one.

What’s up with January, then? Some sweet, new photographs of delicious cookies and whatnots. With professional photography I will be adding a REAL online store so all of you can purchase cookies at your leisure, making it so easy for you! I will also be upgrading my packaging to something extremely cool for all of my accounts. Which takes me to accounts. The beginning of the year is going to be a lot of cookie samples going around town to get the name out there more.

Of course the thing that keeps me really excited about this opportunity is still giving back to nonprofits. Starting January I switch to a new nonprofit, one that a good friend of mine chose and it’s one that I’m very excited to be partnering with. The National Park Foundation has been going through some changes and could use some help! So every pairing, every cookie, everything that Good Sugar Baking sells will give a percentage back to The National Park Foundation. NPFlogo

Check out the schedule for upcoming pairings:

January 11th: Joyride beer and cookie pairing

January 17th: Zuni Street beer and cookie pairing

January 18th: Great Divide beer and cookie pairing

January 24th: Westfax beer and cookie pairing

February 2nd: De Steeg’s 5 year anniversary beer and cookie pairing

HEY!

Hey everyone! It has been tooooooo long since I’ve posted a blog. It’s hard running your own business and doing everything on your own. Speaking of which, if anyone knows of a good accountant or CPA, send them my way, their help is much needed!

Anyways, what has Good Sugar Baking been up to?! Preparing for the holidays, mostly. I’m gaining traction with beer and cookie pairings happening all over town every week. I’m also getting my name out there with silent auctions and community events, meanwhile still selling cookies to breweries. It has been pretty great.

Since the holiday’s are coming up, I’m going to be focusing on catering events, holiday gifts and whatever else. So if you have any events coming up that cookies can be a part of, please email me at goodsugarbaking@gmail.com. Need gifts? Cookies are so good!

New cookies are always happening too!!! My smores cookies went over so well at my good friends’ wedding that they are now a thing at pairings. I also have some Thanksgiving cookies coming out that will be SO GOOD.

What else is there?! Let me know what ideas you have for the upcoming months. How can we work together to benefit our businesses or anything else?! Please reach out to me whenever!

Don’t forget that a percentage of every sale goes to Foundation for Foster Children. They’re a great nonprofit!

Thank you Minds Matter of Denver!

Seeing as how it’s almost the end of September, I want to give a HUGE thank you to Minds Matter of Denver. They have been the nonprofit for the past couple of months and have been awesome to work with! I’ve loved this partnership and hope that we can continue partnering together in many ways for many years.

Stop by Zuni Street Brewing this Thursday from 5-8pm for live music, limited supply of sample cookies and $1 of every pint sold is going to Minds Matter!

Good Sugar Baking has seen a lot of growth within this quarter. From adding more Beer and Cookie pairings, gaining more accounts, creating new cookies and meeting many new people, it has been an incredible time. A lot of that has happened because of the ability to partner with great nonprofits around the world. Minds Matter does substantial work not only in the Denver community  but across the country as well. I’m excited to see them grow more and more. I can’t wait to get them their check for all of the work they have helped Good Sugar accomplish.

Now it’s time to announce a new nonprofit for the next quarter!

This nonprofit comes from one of the Kickstarter backers. It’s perfect timing because they are located in Florida and have been dealing with some of the hurricane. The nonprofit is Foundation for Foster Children. You can learn more by going to their website: https://foundationforfosterchildren.org/

foundationforfosterchildrenI will be writing a post shortly to tell you more about Foundation for Foster Children!

Back to School Time!

Can you believe that summer is basically over?! Everyone’s heading back to school, vacation time is winding down and I’m already thinking about what to do with the upcoming seasons.

What’s really cool is this means lots of meetings, lots of events and lots of stress for many people. Good thing there’s a bakery in town where a percentage of every sale goes to a nonprofit (here’s to you, Minds Matter!).

Speaking of Minds Matter, what a great time to be partnered up with such an outstanding nonprofit. They help prepare students for their future by providing them with the necessary tools to success. It’s a perfect time to be aware of everyone’s future!

Cookies-8009

I’ve been able to fulfill a couple of back to school cookie needs and would love to get some more! Remember that not only do the kids need cookies but so does the staff, so whether you’re a teacher, parent or just want to give some sweets, keep Good Sugar Baking in mind! You can reach out to me here to place a cookie order.

Happy Monday!

Account Spotlight: Mockery Brewing

“For beer drinkers looking for creative & delicious brews, Mockery Brewing is the innovative producer of damn good beers that break the rules in all the right places.”

Mockery Brewing has been one of my go to breweries since they’ve been open. They have always been putting out really fun, experimental and innovative beers in a setting that’s warm and welcoming. I’ve gotten to know a few of the people there just from working in the industry and I’m ecstatic that they wanted to carry my cookies. When they first opened they were carrying cookies but evidently health inspectors didn’t like that. Good thing I have all the licensing and other jazz necessary so now they can have cookies again!

Anyways, their cucumber Berliner Weisse is such a refreshing and tasty beer, just one of the many that I’ve come to enjoy there. Although I don’t know either of the owners, I’m assuming they are some pretty cool dudes just because of how amazing their brewery is.

This Friday, you can find me at Mockery with cookie samples and to party for First Friday!

New Nonprofit Partner!

When I started Good Sugar Baking I knew that I couldn’t just have a bakery. I have wanted to work with nonprofits for a long time and even though I’ve gained a lot of knowledge and understanding on how working in the nonprofit world works, I never found a position that I knew I would enjoy fully with one. I’ve always been a fan of supporting others, whether it’s collaborating together to create delicious meals, craft beers, or whatever, it has always been important to me.

So it’s important to me that my own business supports others. That’s why a percentage of every sale goes to a nonprofit. Although I know that at the beginning I might not be giving as much as I’d like to just because I’m starting off small, it’s still better than nothing. My hope is that I work with nonprofits who want to include Good Sugar Baking in any of their events, letting me volunteer alongside them, hand out cookies, whatever the case may be.

I’m really excited about this new partnered nonprofit. Minds Matter of Denver is a pretty great organization. I spent a lot of time researching this nonprofit so I could properly tell people what this nonprofit does and how it benefits our community.

Denver-CMYK-EPS

Minds Matter supports students from low income families by preparing them for college and their future. When I first moved to Denver, I taught tennis to low income family students and I really enjoyed it. It was with a different nonprofit (future partnership!) and it really opened up my eyes to the importance of helping those who have a lower income, even if it is just teaching some kids how to play a sport that they don’t really care about.

I look forward to working with Minds Matter and providing them with some help as well!

July is here!

Now that June is pretty much over, I’m definitely enjoying this summer so far. I’ve been keeping busy planning events, distributing cookies and creating new recipes. July is destined to be a solid month with more new stuff to come!

First off, July 11th is a beer and cookie pairing at a new brewery! Ratio is definitely one of my favorite breweries; the beer is great, it’s dog friendly and the people are awesome. This beer and cookie pairing is going to be so delicious. Get your tickets here: https://nightout.com/events/good-sugar-baking-cookie-beer-pairing-at-ratio-beerworks/tickets

July is also the start of a new partnered nonprofit. It was great to support 2BAB for the first quarter of the year and I’m excited about writing them a check! That being said, I am really excited to announce the new partnered nonprofit. Stay tuned to find out who the next nonprofit will be!

I am also going to be launching a couple different programs. Refer a friend for a discount on your next order, a loyalty program as well as a couple other programs that will help boost sells and get cookies into everybody’s hands.

Don’t forget the Fourth of July is coming up! Bring some Good Sugar Baking cookies to all of your get togethers, bbq’s and pool parties!

OH! I also just added gift cards: Give a gift card!

What does “shopping local” mean to you?

Colorado is huge when it comes to shopping local. Buy your food at a natural grocery store, eat at a food to table restaurant, adopt from a local shelter, etc. I’ve always wanted to do all those things because it helps support small businesses and it’s typically better for you in the long run, even if it’s a little more costly. I love supporting local businesses.

Everything I do with Good Sugar Baking has been well thought out with local small businesses in mind. Sometimes it makes sense, but sometimes it just costs too much money and unfortunately as a startup, small business myself I have to consider finances more than I’d like to. I have lucked out with a lot of things though, like having really awesome wooden spatulas made by a good friend of mine, and getting thank you cards made by someone I met when I first moved to Colorado who does some really great design work. I love supporting people I know, especially when they’re doing their own thing as well. We need all the support we can get, so it makes sense to work together!

I’m so glad I’m able to partner with nonprofits that want to support me as well. Next month I have a new featured nonprofit and I’m excited to have the chance to work with them! Stay tuned for who that nonprofit is!!

Catering Cookies!

I’ve heard a lot of people talk about how great Good Sugar Baking’s cookies would be for their company events, holidays, graduations, etc. It was already in the works to have catering as an option because it is such an easy and great way to provide sweets for a large amount of people so I’m excited to know that other people feel the same way.

Doing a lot of research has provided me with great price points for catering events, making sure to include the percentage that goes to nonprofits every time. It’s a fun challenge to come up with prices for my baked goods. I really would love to charge the least amount possible because, to me, it’s about providing something enjoyable while giving back to others, but that’s not realistic when it comes to owning a business. Bummer! Nonetheless, I think all of my pricing is affordable and I’m not asking for some ridiculous price.

Cookies-7976

The fun thing with catering is a lot of the times you can be flexible. I have an order next week that includes gluten free cookies and they told me to do whatever I’d like with them, which I’m excited about because I’m still messing around with gluten free recipes.

If you’re interested in some catering for an upcoming event (please give me plenty of notice, especially if it’s a giant order!), you can reach me at goodsugarbaking@gmail.com or I just launched a new page on this site to help you out!! Check it out: Let’s Get Cookies!

FUNDED!!!

If you pay attention to me on social media at all you are already aware that Good Sugar Baking’s Kickstarter has been funded!!! What a great time that was. I’m so pumped to get this all going, especially after such an amazing weekend!

I actually found out my project was funded as I was walking out the door to go get on a plane to Memphis. Now try and tell me what makes for a better start of a trip than finding out something you’ve been busting your butt with has been funded!

So I got to Memphis, met up with two of my very best friends, and the rest is history. Or as someone did tell us, “Memphis is like Vegas. What happens in Memphis stays in Memphis.” But really, between going to the zoo, seeing my favorite band, eating amazing food, drinking amazing drinks (not really, it’s all just Beale St Big Ass Beers and whiskey) and spending time being irresponsible before I have to be SUPER responsible…I kind of don’t really want to get to work because of how much fun I had.

But I’m doing it.

And it’s all YOUR FAULT.

Thank you. I can’t wait to put together everyone’s Kickstarter rewards!
